The Oil & Gas Industry is not famous for changing players often. In fact, we tend to hear a lot of the same company names year after year. What’s interesting, however, is that these companies are constantly jockeying for the number one spot across several similar lists. Let’s take a look at how those familiar names are ranking in 2018.

Exxon Mobil

Perhaps the most recognizable name in Oil, Exxon Mobil does earn a spot on nearly all of the industry Top 10 lists. So far in 2018, this global giant has placed:

  • #1 on the 10 Largest Oil & Gas Companies in America based on Market Value
  • #4 on the World’s Biggest Oil and Gas Companies based on Daily Volume Produced
  • #13 on the Forbes Global 2000 World’s Largest Public Companies

In June of 2018, Exxon Mobil had a market value of $344.55 billion U.S. dollars and an estimated market cap of $344.13 billion in August. The Texas-based company clocked a cool $268 billion in revenue in 2017.

Chevron

Another household name, Chevron also earned its place on several of the industry ranking lists. The Chevron Corporation received:

  • #2 on the 10 Largest Oil & Gas Companies in America based on Market Value
  • #21 on the Forbes Global 2000 World’s Largest Public Companies
  • Honorable mention on the World’s Biggest Oil and Gas Companies based on Daily Volume Produced

The California-based company had a market value of $239.06 billion U.S. dollars in June and an estimated market cap of $248.12 billion in August. It was the third largest oil company on the Forbes Global 2000.

Royal Dutch Shell

Royal Dutch Shell may not be an American company, but it is certainly a recognizable one. Residing in the Netherlands, this oil and gas gargantuan ranked:

Interestingly enough, Royal Dutch Shell outranked Exxon Mobil in the Forbes Global 2000 list despite having an estimated market cap that is $37.67 billion dollars less.

BP

Finally, this UK-based oil and gas company rounds out our list of most recognizable industry names. With $222 billion in revenue in 2017, the company ranked:

  • #7 on the World’s Biggest Oil and Gas Companies based on Daily Volume Produced
  • #36 on the Forbes Global 2000 World’s Largest Public Companies.

The company’s estimated market cap as of early 2018 was $152.57 billion.
